MAP - Coronavirus: which countries are the most affected in the world?

Since the appearance of the new coronavirus in China at the end of 2019, the number of contaminations exceeded 1.2 million confirmed cases on Monday 6 April. Nearly 70,000 people have died in 180 countries and territories.

Virtually the entire globe has been hit by the Covid-19 pandemic. The number of contaminations with the coronavirus Sars-CoV-2 reached 1,276,302 confirmed cases in 180 countries and territories on Monday 6 April, according to a report drawn up by researchers from the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. A total of 69,527 people died and 262,299 recovered.

The original focus of the pandemic, China - not including the territories of Hong Kong and Macao - is home to 82,641 cases, a number that is now increasing very slightly by the day, leading some to question the veracity of the figures given. The country is now far outnumbered by the United States (337,646 cases), Spain (131,646 cases) and Italy (128,948 cases). Next come Germany (100,123 cases), France (93,780 cases), Iran (58,226) and the United Kingdom (48,440).
